Marathon Opening Ceremony
Featuring the Parade of Nations and Inaugural Hall of Fame Presentation
New for 2011, this spectacular event will kick off Marathon Weekend on Friday night in Central Park!
Designed to celebrate and recognize our global running community, the evening will showcase our runners from around the world in a cultural parade across the marathon finish line. Following the parade will be our inaugural Hall of Fame Presentation and Poland Spring Presents the Marathon Fireworks and dance party.
What: An exciting evening filled with celebration and entertainment featuring:
• Special performance by AntiGravity
• Parade of Nations featuring delegates from more than 75 countries, Achilles International, and Team For Kids
• Pro athlete appearances
• A “New York, New York” sing-along led by Gary Russo, the “Second Avenue Sinatra”
• Abebe Bikila Award presentation
• NYRR Hall of Fame “First Class” inductions
• Ceremonial “first finish” featuring a very special surprise guest!
• Poland Spring Presents the Marathon Fireworks
• Live entertainment from On the Move Entertainment’s Synergy Group
When: Friday, November 4
6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
“Doors” open at 5:00 p.m.; grandstand seating available on a first-come, first-served basis; overflow standing along the parade route
Where: Central Park, leading to the Marathon finish line; enter at Central Park West & 67th St.
Who: Country delegations from around the world, cheered by marathoners, friends, family, and fans of the ING New York City Marathon
The festivities are free and open to everyone. Note: There is no baggage check for this event.
